Staudt Surveying first opened in Dripping Springs in the spring of 1985 when Tom and Sally first began trying to build their business from their home (at the time on Ranch Road 12 South). In a short time they moved the business to the small rock building across from Rippy’s Feed store on Mercer Street. Unfortunately, the economic downturn of the late 80’s took its toll, and in 1988 they were forced to close shop and move out of state to find sufficient work to support their three children.

However, the draw of the Hill Country and the community of Dripping Springs were strong, and in 1997 they returned to Dripping Springs and reopened Staudt Surveying. They have changed locations several times since returning to Dripping Springs, even returning to the small rock building where they were in the 80’s, but as the company grew, their need for space also grew. They currently office in the Spring Bluff Center, upstairs in the two story building.

Tom and Sally both earned a BS in Forestry from Stephen F. Austin State University in December 1977. Tom began his surveying career shortly after receiving that degree, working first for a private surveying company and then as a surveyor for the U.S. Forest Service. He became a Registered Surveyor in the State of Texas in 1981. Sally also did surveying work for a private surveyor for a short time after graduation. In 1984 they decided to relocate to the Hill Country and moved to Austin where they both took jobs with surveying firms. It was after their move to Dripping Springs in 1985 that they first opened Staudt Surveying.

Staudt Surveying is truly a family business. Tom and Sally’s oldest son, Sam, currently serves as their party chief and directs the vast majority of the field work. He has a great deal of experience in both field and office aspects of the business. He first began working for them at the age of 14, and continued with various other surveying companies until he returned to work for them in 1998.

Tom and Sally’s youngest child, daughter Amanda, has helped in the office on a part time basis from time to time during her college years, and older daughter, April, is scheduled to start work for them in February.

Staudt Surveying is a full service surveying company providing all types of land surveying services including boundary and topographic surveys, subdivisions, construction staking, and as-builts. In addition to conventional surveying techniques, they have complete GPS capabilities and are a part of an Austin-San Antonio Area GPs network that allows them to obtain GPs information with the greatest speed and accuracy available. They believe in doing quality work and providing good customer service to their clients. The Dripping Springs community is on a course for growth and development and Tom and Sally believe that their services can help bring about those changes in an orderly and well-documented way.
